The first thing we need to do is launch our boat in a lake that is known to have big trophy bass. Now we need to look at the shoreline for small creeks draining into this lake or for a stump field or large tree laying in the water.

As we approach a tree in the water observe the conditions around you. If it is a calm day and the lake has no waves start with this technique. Put on a medium large crank bait and cast it out. Leave it lay in place for a few seconds. Many times as soon as you go to move it they hit it. Reel it in using a jerky motion to imitate a wounded prey. The second that bass hits set the hook. The one thing I have learned if the bass hits a crank bait you can not set the hook hard enough so don't worry.

Assuming the lake is rougher then we need to start using some other techniques. I like to start with a rubber worm. Berkley power bait works great. I have used their worms and their leeches and caught record size bass. Cast these out and retrieve slowly, I repeat slowly. Again, when that bass hits set the hook!

If that is not working try using a spinner bait or an underwater crank bait. Both of these baits are designed to attract fish so you reel them at a faster rate of speed. If you are still not successful it is time to find another fishing spot they must not be biting where you are.

If these techniques are not working then try using my techniques in my other article called How to Catch Big Bass using Live Bait.
