Take it to the Bank
-
One of the best things about fishing a small lake or pond is that you can reach fairly deep water right from shore. Boyd Pond Park includes a lengthy section of open shoreline for bank fishing, and the handicap-accessible fishing pier is probably the most popular fishing spot in the pier. Up on Town Creek, you can also cast a line from a 300-foot boardwalk. You can catch bluegill and catfish from the pier, and on most days all you need is a live nightcrawler on a hook. You might also hook the occasional largemouth bass, though for the best bass fishing, it helps to get out on open water.
Out on Open Water
-
Boyd Pond doesn't have any developed boat launch facilities, but the small lake is perfect for fishing from a canoe or kayak, and you can launch one right from shore. The lake has a lot of fish habitat, including standing timber, submerged brush piles and weed beds. For bass, try casting topwaters, spinnerbaits and soft plastic lures in these areas. Bass often hunt in relatively shallow water, so focus on shallow cover with deeper water nearby. Fishing near bottom in the deeper parts of the pond can also be ideal for catfish, especially if you use smelly natural baits like chicken liver or nightcrawlers. Shallow brush piles and wood cover are also productive for crappie in springtime, and they bite live minnows and small jigs.
More Fishing Spots

If you don't mind taking a little drive, you can also fish at several other lakes within a few miles of Boyd Pond. Langley Pond, about 20 minutes away, is one of the best spots in the area, with fishing for bass, bluegill and other species. The Langley Pond Boat Landing in Burnettown provides shore access, boat launch facilities, picnic areas, restrooms and parking. The Savannah River forms the border between South Carolina and Georgia less than 10 miles east of Boyd Pond, and you can choose among numerous parks and other access points along the river.
