How to Mount a Plastic Lure on a Jig Hook

Anglers who want a lure that catches a wide variety of fish and can be used in nearly any fishing situation would do well to choose a lead-head jig. The lures, which are available in many sizes, can be fished in any depth of water and dragged along the bottom or at any point in the water column. Jigs alone, however, do not produce fish. Anglers must mount a trailer to them. Soft plastic baits are among the best trailers.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold the jig by its head in one hand. Hold the plastic lure -- so the tail points downward -- in your other hand.

    • 2

Push the point of the jig hook into the middle of the top of the plastic lure. Point the jig hook and the tail of the soft plastic lure in opposite directions.

    • 3

Push the soft lure up the shank of the hook.

    • 4

Push the hook out of the soft plastic lure when the top of the soft plastic is about 1/4 inch below the jig head.

    • 5

Push the soft plastic lure all the way up the shank so its top is flush with the bottom of the jig head.
