How to Make Trout Lures

Trout are native to freshwater lakes and rivers in North America, Europe and northern Asia. In the 1800s, trout were introduced to Australia and New Zealand. Trout prefer cool water. There are several species of trout, including rainbow trout and brown trout. Trout are related to salmon and are classified as an oily fish, rich in vitamins A and D and omega-3 fatty acids.

Instructions

    • 1

Use the pliers to bend the bottle cap into the shape of a taco shell.

    • 2

Place the sinker in inside the bottle cap and use the pliers to fold the cap around the sinker. Leave enough room around the sinker for it to rattle around in the folded bottle cap.

    • 3

Hold the cap firmly using the pliers or vise. Drill two holes in the bottle cap, one at each folded corner, 1/8 inch from the edge.

    • 4

Thread the metal wire through one of the holes in the bottle cap. Use it to tie the hook on to the lure.

    • 5

Clip the swivel to the other hole. Use the swivel to attach the lure to the fishing line.
