How to Rig a Twiston Sinker

Fishermen can attach twist-on fishing sinkers to their line, or to the hooks on their fishing lures. The sinkers come in a matchbook-sized case, and the sinkers themselves are about the size of matches. Anglers tear a full sinker -- or a part of one -- out of the case and twist it around their line or lure to add weight. Unlike many other sinker types, moving or removing twist-on sinkers does not involve cutting the fishing line.

Instructions

    • 1

Tear a twist-on sinker out of the case that holds it.

    • 2

Place the twist-on sinker against the fishing line at the spot to which you want to attach it. Twist the sinker around the fishing line until it is tight.

    • 3

Remove the sinker from the line, or move it to a new location, by untwisting it.

    • 4

Attach the twist-on sinker to the shank of a fishing hook, about halfway between the hook eye and the bend in the hook, to change the lure's weight or alter the way it balances in the water.
