How to Disassemble Spool & Drag Washers on a Zebco Spincast Reel

Zebco produces fishing gear such as rods and reels. Among the company's product line is a series of spincast reels which use open housings, and mount under the rod for casting and retrieving action. In order to keep your Zebco spincast reel running smooth and free, it is necessary to open it and clean the small parts like washers for the spool and drag switches. Disassemble the reel to access the washer stacks, and remove them in the proper order.

Instructions

    • 1

Spread the white cloth out on a flat work bench, next to where you disassemble the reel. Unscrew the cover assembly on the palm side of the reel. Remove the cover.

    • 2

Remove, one by one, the washer stack on the spindle now exposed. Set each washer on the white cloth, going in one direction so you know the order for re-assembly. The first washer in the stack is the centrifugal dial washer, followed by the dial and dial spring. After this, remove the spool cover, spool-cover screw and then the spool-cover washer. Again, set these down in the proper order on the white cloth.

    • 3

Unscrew the handle on the opposite side of the reel and pull it off along with the washer stack for the handle. Set them aside on the cloth. Remove the star from the handle and then remove the star-drag washer.

    • 4

Remove the two spring "D" washers next in the stack and set on the cloth. Unscrew the gear assembly cover and find the next stack of washers.

    • 5

Pull off the bearing sleeve and remove the set of drag disc and drag disc washers. Set them on the cloth.
