How to Make Ornamental Thread Wraps on a Fly Rod
Thread wraps are used to secure guides to a fly rod. If you would like to attach a new guide to your fly rod, you can attach it with an ornamental thread wrap. The guide on your fly rod has two parts. The foot is the part that connects to the fly rod. The loop is the part that sticks out of the pole where the line goes through. You don’t have to be a fishing genius to install an ornamental thread wrap. You can do it yourself.

Wrap the first thread as close to the guide’s loop as possible.

Wrap the guide five or six times so the guide is lightly secured to the rod.

Make tight wraps around the entire guide so the guide is tightly secured to the rod. Cut the thread.

Get your other color of thread and start wrapping the guide from where you left off with the first thread, but in the other direction.
