How to Make Lures From Shell Casings
The ingenuity of the fisherman is often underestimated. For years, fishermen have been successfully converting all types of household items into tackle that can be used while fishing. Spent shell casings, for example, can be transformed into fishing lures at home. Not only do you save money on lures, but you're also able to recycle spent brass instead of throwing it away. Making these lures requires only one tool and a few materials.
Things You'll Need
- Shell casing
- Drill with a small bit
- Hook
- Waterproof glue
- Feathers
- Line
- Tape
Instructions
-
-
1
Drill a hole in one end of the shell casing large enough for the eye of a hook to pass through.
-
2
Tie feathers or other materials to thread a tail on the hook, making sure that the wrap is back a bit from the eye of the hook. There should be a segment of line coming out as well from which you can use this lure.
-
3
Push the hook through the shell casing and position it so that the shell casing completely covers the thread wrap.
-
4
Tape the hole and the eye of the hook closed.
-
5
Fill the shell casing with thick, waterproof glue and let it cure completely. Remove the tape before you go fishing.
