How to Tie Multiple Hooks on a Dropper Rig
Dropper rigs are used by salt and freshwater anglers to present multiple hooks. Artificial lures, live and natural baits are used with dropper rigs, depending on the fish species and method of fishing. Fly anglers often present a dry fly and streamer, or a nymph combination with a dropper rig. The combination allows for presentation to fish feeding on the surface and deeper in the water.

1
Attach a dry fly to the end of your tippet with an improved clinch knot. Moisten the knot with water or saliva before pulling tight. Trim excess from the free end of the line with scissors.
-
2
Determine the depth in the water in which the nymph is being fished. Cut a length of tippet to use as a dropper. This allows the nymph to be presented at a specific level.
-
3
Tie one end of the dropper length to the bend of the dry fly with an improved clinch knot. Position the line so it sits in the bend of the hook.
-
4
Tie a nymph fly to the free end of the dropper with an improved clinch knot.
-
5
Adjust the length of the dropper as necessary to present the nymph to bottom-feeding fish.
