How to Ride Without Bouncing on the Horse

Horse riding expertly requires many hours of practice with the right skills. An up and down motion while riding a horse is natural, however, bouncing against the horses back and saddle is a symptom that you are not in sync with the horse. There are several tactics that allow you to get in sync with the horse but first you have to overcome (or release) any fear of falling. This leads to unnatural apprehension while riding which retards the tactics needed to stop bouncing.

Instructions

    • 1

Find the horse's center of gravity, which is right in the middle of the horse's back. Relax your muscles and follow the motion patter of the horse. Tense only the muscle groups necessary to maintain this center of gravity.

    • 2

Breathe normally and avoid holding your breath. Maintaining a natural and rythmic breathing pattern helps relax your muscles and center your posture so that you remain in stride with the horse.

    • 3

Adjust your stirrups to allow no more than a fist of space between your bottom and the seat.

    • 4

Press down on your seat bones to add more weight to the horse when the ride becomes exceedingly bumpy. Get in tune with the horse's up and down motion rather than letting it push and pull you.

    • 5

Use steps one through four simultaneously. Practice and ride until each tactic comes naturally.
