1
Select an open area such as a dry river basin or open field with small shrubs lining the ground. Jack rabbits rely on speed to escape predators and prefer open areas to run in as well as brush in which to hide.
-
2
Situate yourself at the highest point within the open area. This may be a rock, small mound or hillside. You want to look down into the brush rather than having to look through it at eye-level.
-
3
Whistle with your mouth or use a whistle to send high-pitched sounds into the open area. This will cause any jack rabbits nearby to perk up their ears. Jack rabbit ears are the only parts of the rabbit that are black and can be clearly seen in contrast to the sand-colored Nevada terrain.
-
4
Scan the area with your binoculars or scope while whistling to look for any signs of movement. Once you locate the jack rabbit's ears, it will be easy to identify the rest of the body.
-
5
Take aim and shoot.
