How to Improve the Top Speed for a 1996 Seadoo GTI
The Sea-Doo uses a jet pump drive system, which works by taking water in, compressing it and pushing it out. You might think more water in equals more water out and a higher top speed, and it does. Because the impeller housing on the GTI is smaller than those found on other models, you must look at the other end of that equation. Installing a racing intake grate is the least inconvenient way to improve the top speed of the 1996 Sea-Doo GTI.
Things You'll Need

- Ratchet
- Sea Doo racing intake grate

1
Remove the four screws that hold the stock intake grate to the bottom of the Sea-Doo. Retain the screws and store the grate.
-
2
Apply a medium-strength thread locker to the threads of the grate mounting screws.
-
3
Position the racing grate over the intake opening. Thread the mounting screws into place and tighten them as much as possible with your fingers. Tighten them to 71 inch-pounds with a torque driver.
