Removal

1
Remove the rear seat from the vessel by activating the latch under the rear edge of the seat. Once you lift the seat away, you can activate the latch on the back of the front seat. Lift the front seat off the vessel.
-
2
Disconnect both battery cables -- not only the negative cable, but both cables -- using a 5/16 open-end wrench to remove the negative cable first and a 3/8 open-end wrench to remove the positive cable.
-
3
Disconnect the ring terminal on the negative starter cable -- the starter ground -- located on the front of the starter, using an Allen wrench. Remove the cover from the positive starter cable, found on the side of the starter. Remove the nut holding the cable using an adjustable wrench.
-
4
Loosen the single Allen screw on the starter bracket, which holds the bracket and starter on the engine. Remove the screw and lift the starter and starter bracket from the engine compartment.
Installation
-
5
Apply thread-locking compound to the Allen screw of the starter bracket. Lower the starter into the engine compartment. Thread the bracket's Allen screw into its bore. Tighten the screw to 89 foot-pounds.
-
6
Connect the red, positive starter cable to the screw terminal on the side of the starter. Thread the nut onto the lug. Tighten the nut to 53 foot-pounds. Cover the nut and terminal with dielectric grease.
-
7
Position the ring terminal of the negative cable over its bore on the front of the starter. Thread the Allen screw through the terminal and tighten snugly.
