How to Wire an ATV Winch With Quick Connect

All terrain vehicles (ATV) are built for off-road fun and adventure. Nevertheless, they can still sometimes get stuck in the mud. Whether this is the case, or you just want to use the ATV for pulling heavy objects, you can install a winch on your own. There are many brands of ATV winches on the market. Wiring for these winches typically have quick connect systems for easy wiring, and can be installed in just 15 minutes.

  • Phillips-head screwdriver
  • Plastic ties
  • Adjustable wrench

Instructions

    • 1

      Plug the quick connect plastic wiring harness into the back of the ATV winch. Insert the retaining screws and tighten them with a screwdriver.

      Run the quick connect cable to the battery following the same route as the headlight wiring. Use plastic ties to hold the cable down if necessary.

      Lift the seat to access the ATV battery.

      Remove the battery cables with an adjustable wrench.

      Attach the quick connect positive cable to the positive battery terminal. Attach the negative cable to the negative battery terminal, and the attach and tighten the battery cables with the wrench.

      Start the ATV, and power up the winch to test it.
