Hard-Shell Holders
-
1
Measure the distance on the kayak where you want the holder to be mounted. Typical locations are in front of the cockpit. Place the holder where it will not get in the way. This is particularly important if you plan on fishing or engaging in other activities while the paddle is in the holder.
-
2
Place the paddle holder against the chosen location and mark the screw holes on the kayak. Drill the holes. Use the appropriate drill bit to match the paddle holder's holes; the bit will be based around the specifications provided with the paddle holder. Drill on the top of the kayak deck. Take care to go slow and be precise with the drilling.
-
3
Screw the holder into place. Align the holes of the paddle holder with the holes you drilled on the kayak. Turn the screws to the right to tighten. Place washers against the kayak deck. Thread the screw through the washer and holes of the kayak and paddle holder.
Nylon Leash-Style Holders
-
4
Tie the nylon cord of the paddle holder to the kayak gunnel using a reliable knot.
-
5
Wrap the fabric, hook and loop bracelet around the paddle shaft, out of the way of your holding position.
-
6
Slide the paddle under the bungee to hold it in position on the front of the kayak.
