Instructions

Pack your camping gear into dry bags. Use several small dry bags of different colors to help separate your gear by type---the different colors help you spot the gear you need by sight instead of having to open a bunch of bags to find it. When closing a dry bag, burp it of air by compressing it with your knee before you roll the top.

    • 2

Organize your dry-bagged gear next to your kayak. The heaviest gear and gear needed while on the water should be organized nearest the center of your kayak. Place the lightest gear towards the end. Try to balance the load's weight evenly between the front and the back of the kayak.

Load the gear into your kayak one bag at a time. Often, repacking and rearranging the dry bags helps you get it all in. Once you get everything to fit, try to remember the packing scheme. Try this at home before you're under pressure to launch the start of your trip.
