How to Install Enduro Bearings in an FSA MegaExo Bottom Bracket

Full Speed Ahead, known by the acronym FSA, produces components for road and mountain bicycles. Enduro produces cartridge bearings that are compatible with the FSA MegaExo bottom bracket. The Enduro bearings are installed the same as any other cartridge bearings. A special tool is needed to remove the bottom bracket from the bicycle, when doing the installation.

Instructions

    • 1

Secure the bicycle in the work stand. Pull the chain off the chain-rings. Insert the 8mm hex wrench into the center hex screw in the cranks, and unscrew. Pull the cranks off the bike.

    • 2

Place the jaws of the bottom bracket tool into the small slits found around the edge of the bottom bracket -- where it locks into the bicycle frame. Turn the tool counterclockwise to unscrew the MegaExo. Pull the MegaExo out from the frame.

    • 3

Wipe down the entire MegaExo with a shop rag to clean it up, while it is out of the bicycle.

    • 4

Grip the ends of the bottom bracket. The MegaExo looks like a dog bone, with wide ends and a narrow middle. The ends have the cartridge bearings. Turn them counterclockwise, to loosen and remove them from the MegaExo.

    • 5

Place the Enduro bearing cartridges on the outer edges of the MegaExo, and turn them clockwise to tighten them into the MegaExo.

    • 6

Place the MegaExo back into the bottom bracket holder on the bicycle frame, and turn it clockwise until resistance is met. Use the bottom bracket tool to tighten it further, until it won't turn any more.

    • 7

Place the cranks back onto the spindle of the bottom brackets, and tighten with the 8mm hex wrench. Place the chain back on the bike, and go ride.
