Amazing Boomerang: Simple, Works Great, Huge Fun
-
1
You will need two paint stirring sticks for each simple-to-make boomerang that you construct. Examine the two paint sticks to see if either is concave on one side.
-
2
If there is a concave side to either (or both) of the sticks, be sure to construct your boomerang so that the concave side forms the bottom, or underside. Paint sticks that are weak, warped or twisted should not be used for this project.
-
3
Although this step is suggested, it isn't mandatory. If you don't have a rasp or a file or a grinder or sandpaper, your boomerang will still turn out fine, and will still work great. Simply round off the corners of each of the sticks (the wingtips).
-
4
Now you can decorate the sticks with paints and/or markers. The smoother the coating of paint, the better. It's smart to boldly decorate your boomerang; that will make it easier for you to locate during play. After the decorations dry, spray the sticks with a clear sealant.
-
5
Cross the two sticks together at their centers at a 90-degree angle. Now secure the sticks in this position with a couple of tightly wrapped rubber bands. Head outside.
-
6
Throwing your boomerang will work best with either no wind or a slight breeze, less than 3 miles per hour. To throw it, grasp one wingtip of the boomerang between your thumb and one, two or three fingers -- whatever feels best. Hold it vertically or tilt it slightly at an angle that looks like this-- / Be sure to spend plenty of time experimenting with different speeds, directions and angles to see what kinds of flight patterns develop.
