Pell City Civic Center and Pell City, Ala., Activities

Pell City is a small city in northeast Alabama. Along with the nearby town of Ashville, Pell City makes up the county seat of St. Clair County. Pell City and the surrounding neighborhoods offer miles of park land and lakes, which comprise the majority of its outdoor recreation. The Pell City Civic Center has several sporting areas including a gymnasium with a few basketball courts and a soccer field. From swimming and boating to skydiving, there are many activities to keep you busy in Pell City.
  1. Sporting Activities

    • The Pell City Civic Center is the main headquarters of the Pell City Parks and Recreation Department. The recreation department offers regular sporting activities including baseball, softball, football, soccer, cheerleading and dance. Classes include zumba, dance and decorative art. The Pell City Tennis Center is adjacent to the Civic Center. The tennis center has eight lighted courts, water coolers, benches and shade awnings. Tennis ball machines are also available. Both facilities operate on a seven-day schedule. Hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

    Outdoor Recreation

    • Lakeside Park is adjacent to the Pell City Civic Center along the Logan Martin Lake. This 65-acre park area offers several outdoor amenities such as a playground, nature trails and fishing. The park also has three pavilions available for rent by reservation only. Lakeside Park is open from 6:30 a.m. until sunset.

      The Ridge is an off-road riding park approximately 15 miles from Pell City in Springville. This off-road circuit park caters to motorcycles, dirt bikes and all-terrain vehicles. The Ridge maintains more than 30 miles of trails, which include open fields, tight woods, fire lanes, hills and low creeks. Riders of all ages are welcome, though minors must have permission from a guardian. Helmets are required for all riders. Food and soft drinks are also available at the Ridge Clubhouse. Hours are Friday through Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

    Golf

    • Pell City and its surrounding neighborhoods have several public golf courses situated around the city. The Timber Ridge Golf Course is located approximately 15 miles away from Pell City in Talladega. The course has served the area since its opening in 1989. This public golf course features 18 holes over 6,521 yards with a par of 71. Timber Ridge has a course rating of 71.2 and a slope rating of 126. Also in Talladega is the Timber Ridge Golf Course. The Talladega Municipal Golf Course This 9-hole course has 3,061 yards of green with a par of 36.

    Extreme Adventure Sports

    • Alabama Skydiving Center (ACS) is the only full-time professional skydiving center in Alabama. The center prides itself on using professional, state-of-the-art safety equipment. At Alabama Skydiving Center, jumpers can expect skydiving training, a recreation area, an observation deck and rigging services. ASC is open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

      Dale Jarrett Racing Adventure's racing school instructors (racingadventure.com) teach how to operate race cars. Learn how to enter and exit the track, drive the race car, find your line, pass, draft and more, and then you can drive a car on the track. The instructor will guide you through several maneuvers and increase your speed with each lap. Dale Jarrett Racing Adventure uses safety devices such as fire-retardant racing suits, full-face helmets, five-point harnesses and Hans safety devices. Family and friends can watch on the sidelines while you drive the car.
