How to Troubleshoot an Automag

Paintball is a popular sport that pits teams of shooters armed with paintball guns against each other as they try to eliminate the enemy while avoiding getting paint on themselves. The Automag is one model of paintball gun that many avid players of the game choose to use. You might experience some problems with this gun, however, which you can troubleshoot before your next match begins.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the CO2 tank attached to the Automag to ensure it is full and screwed into the receiver properly if the Automag does not shoot when you pull the trigger. If the tank is OK, turn the regulator nut on the back of the Automag until the gun shoots or air is dispersed. If this does not fix the problem, take the tank off and check the barrel and the bolt for obstructions.

Pull the trigger and watch the velocity of each shot as it comes out of the barrel. If the first shot has a higher velocity than the rest, you may have a hardware problem. If each shot becomes progressively weaker, then the regulator nut may be loosening itself. Take note of the position of the nut before each shot to see if this is the case. If so, replace the nut.

    • 3

Clear out the system if the velocity of each shot is random --- some shots are high velocity, some are low. Disconnect the tank, screw the regulator nut all the way in and then back it all the way out again. Replace the tank and tighten the nut to the appropriate level.

Check for leakage periodically as you use the Automag. If you see paint leaking from the barrel or the trigger area, this most likely means an O-ring is worn through somewhere in the system. Change the O-ring if you are comfortable doing so; otherwise, contact the manufacturer for assistance.
