How to Measure a Ping Pong Table

Table tennis, or ping pong, as it is commonly known, is a popular indoor game that's more than 100 years old. Much like its full-size outdoor tennis counterpart, ping pong involves serving and returning a ball across a net to score points when your opponent on the other side misses. Ping pong, however, is played on a tabletop of specific dimensions and height. If you want to play ping pong properly, you will need to make sure your ping pong table adheres to the correct measurement specifications.

Instructions

Measure the height of one table corner by extending your measuring tape from the floor to the top surface of the table. Your tape measure should meet the top of the table at the 30-inch mark. Repeat this step at the other three corners to ensure your table is level.

    • 2

Stand at one end of the table. Extend the tape measure out from one edge of the table length to the other. Its width should read exactly 5 feet, or 60 inches.

    • 3

Hook the end of your tape measure on the edge of the table width and run it down the length of the table. At the far end of the table, it should end right at the 9-foot mark, or 108 inches.

    • 4

Measure in from one side of the table length until you reach the middle line. That line should be at the 30-inch mark. Measure in from one side of the table width to the net. The net should be at the 54-inch mark, right in middle. Finally, measure from the top of the table to the top of the net. It should measure 6 inches.
