Plywood Begin with a piece of plywood for the surface, which can be bought or salvaged. Typical tournament dimensions are 8 feet by 4 feet and roughly 1 inch thick, but personal preference is what it's all about.

2
Find a way to prop up your table. A kitchen table, outdoor table, chairs, garbage cans, even cinder blocks. Anything that is the same height at both ends and provides a level surface will work. Depending on your budget, you might choose to build a set of legs that will fold under the table. This is a lot trickier as it requires hinges and more expertise, and it makes the table a lot heavier. For most players, the simpler option is the most likely, and probably the way you want to go.

3
Paintbrush Use a primer before your creative layers. Painting directly onto a wood surface is not nearly as effective or long-lasting.
-
4
Choose a waterproof acrylic for your paint design. This is a drinking game, after all. Water and beer will seep through low-grade paint, ruining the design and even warping the wood.
-
5
Finish with a lacquer coat; it will provide a glossier surface that adds a little protection from chipping. Essentially, the more time you take with the painting steps, the longer the table will last and the happier you'll be with the result.

6
Transport Figure out your transport options. A pickup truck solves pretty much all your problems, but if you don't have access to one then you may have to invest in hinging the table.

7
Two pieces of plywood with properly attached hinges (home improvement stores can help you buy the right pieces) can fit in a car, so this might be worth looking in to.
