How to Remove Finger Grooves From a Hogue

The Hogue Company manufactures several different grips that can be installed on various handguns. These grips feature a finger groove design for optimal gun handling and grip and to reduce slipping while you fire your gun. If the gun has a finger groove grip and you want to remove it for repair or replacement, you will need a few small hand tools and a few minutes to do the job.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the gun over so you can see the bottom of the grip. There will be a screw there. Remove it in a counterclockwise direction with a screwdriver.

    • 2

Using a radial motion, rotate the grip off of the handle, away from the trigger guard and gun frame.

    • 3

Remove the pins and stirrups from the internal guide grooves that hold the grip to the gun frame. You may have to use a hammer and punch to maneuver the pins from their position and out of the stirrup.

    • 4

Pull the finger groove grip off of the gun completely. Replace it with a new one of your choosing or repair it, if needed. Follow any instructions and warnings that were provided with your new grip.
