How to Restore Plastic Headlamp Covers
Headlamps are flashlights that are secured to your head with a stretchy band. These little lights free hands for camp tasks or allow you to trek during darkness. Most headlamps are battery-powered and use LED-style bulbs. A plastic lens covers the LED bulb housing. Over repeated exposure to sun and the elements, these plastic covers may yellow or lose their luster. Restore your headlamps' clear qualities with some soft-scrub style liquid cleaner and a sponge.
Things You'll Need
- Plastic lens soft-scrub style cleaner
- Sponge
- Chamois cloth
Instructions

1
Unscrew the headlamp to get to the lens cover. Pop the cover out from the housing. Spread coating of the liquid soft-scrub to one side of the lens.
-
2
Scrub the lens with the sponge. Go in small circles as you scour the yellowing and gunk off of the lens. Wipe away the excess liquid and apply a coating to the opposite side of the lens.
-
3
Scour the lens with the soft-scrub liquid and the sponge, using the circle motion, and wipe off the excess liquid.
-
4
Hold the lens up to a light source -- do not hold up into direct sunlight as this may damage eyes -- and check that the yellowing has been removed and the cover is restored to its clear stature.
