How to Replace the Pedals on a Schwinn 10-Speed
Schwinn 10-speed bicycles use spindle-threaded pedals to turn the cranks and power the bicycle forward. To replace these pedals, you need to use a specialized tool called a pedal wrench. Replace your old pedals using this tool and some spray-on solvent should removing the old pedals prove tough. Replacing the pedals on your Schwinn 10-speed should take you less than half an hour.

- Bike work stand
- Spray-on solvent
- Pedal wrench
- Bike grease

Place your Schwinn 10-speed in the work stand. Turn the cranks so the pedals are up and down, perpendicular to the floor.

Spray the solvent into the attachment points where the pedals screw into the cranks. Let the solvent soak in and wipe away any excess from the cranks.

Place the pedal wrench on the nut on the inside of the spindle, next to the crank. Hold the wrench and push down counterclockwise to loosen the old pedals. Unscrew them with your hands once the initial break from the cranks is done. Remove the old pedals.

Grease the threads of the new pedals and hand-tighten them clockwise into the bicycle cranks. Use the pedal wrench to finish tighten as firmly as possible.
