How to Measure for a Motobecane

Motobecane, an American bicycle manufacturer, specializes in all aspects of the cycling world. They carry models for mountain, road, and urban street bikes. Measuring yourself to fit the frame sizes is the same across all disciplines. The only variable is the size of the rider. Although the measurements for mountain and urban bike frames differ from that of road bike frames, the concept of measuring is the same. Mountain and urban bikes are measured in inches, from 14 inches to 22 inches, whereas road bike frames range from 50 centimeters to 62 centimeters.

Instructions

Grab the model of Motobecane you wish to ride, whether it's mountain, road, or urban. Use your height as a starting point. If you are 5 feet tall to 5 feet, 4 inches, you'll want a smaller frame. If you are 5 feet, 5 inches tall to 6 foot, you'll want a medium-sized frame. And if you're taller than 6 feet, you'll need a large frame.

Swing your leg over the top bar. Make sure you can clear the seat safely, as this process will need to be repeated when getting on and off the bike. If your foot comes in contact with the bike, choose a smaller size. In an emergency, you'll need to be able to hop off your bike with ease.

Grab the stem with one hand. The stem is the piece that connects the frame to the handlebars. With your other hand grab the seat. Lift the bike off the ground straight towards your crotch. You will want two inches of clearance between your crotch and ground. This is both for safety and ride efficiency reasons. Depending on how close or far away your crotch is from the top bar, adjust accordingly.
