1
Examine the bicycle's brake and chain mechanisms to determine proper placement and orientation of the sprocket. Many sprockets are symmetrical, but others are offset, and must be placed appropriately for the brake to function correctly.
-
2
Install the rear coaster hub within the axle of the rear wheel so the sprocket will be mounted on the left side of the bike. To do this, place the wheel into the axle vise with the right side facing upward. Then insert the brake assembly, including the clutch and coaster hub shell, down through the hollow axle. The hub will rest inside the axle and the brake arm should remain on the right side of the wheel. Secure the locknut onto the cone atop the assembly. This will hold it in place.

3
Flip the wheel over and replace it in the vise so the left side is facing upward.
-
4
Slide the sprocket onto the driver at the end of the hub that sticks out from the axle, making sure the sprocket is positioned correctly if it is an offset type.
-
5
Slide the snap ring over the sprocket, and use a thin-bladed screwdriver to "snap" it into place on the driver to secure the sprocket.
