How to Make a Sprocket Chain Move Faster
Sprocket chains are found on bikes, trikes and motorcycles, among other machines, and are attached to sprockets attached to wheels to move the vehicle, whether by human power or by means of an engine. The teeth in the driver sprocket fit into openings on the chain, pulling the chain around the driven sprocket's teeth and turning the wheel. In most cases, the driven sprocket is located on the rear wheel or wheels, although there are some vehicles where the location is reversed. To make the chain move faster, you will need a smaller sprocket with fewer teeth.

1
Remove the chain from the vehicle. In many cases, this only requires opening the clip that holds the chain together.

2
Unbolt the sprocket from the rear wheel with the socket wrench. For some vehicles, you may need specialized tools.
-
3
Remove the sprocket and replace it with a smaller sprocket with fewer teeth. Tighten the socket.
-

Replace the chain around both the front and rear sockets. Adjust the placement of the rear socket or the size of the chain, or purchase a new chain if necessary. The chain will now turn faster.
