How to Use Bicycle Hand Signals
Instructions
-
-
1
Begin signaling long before you are ready to perform the action. Motorists also need some advance warning so they can react to what you are going to do.
-
2
Look behind to notice other vehicles and see what they are doing. This will not only help you, but your body language will make it obvious to motorists that you are planning to do something.
-
3
Use your left hand when signaling to other people. You should always be riding on the right side of the road, so people will be able to see your left arm clearly.
-
4
Stick your left arm to the side straight out from your body, parallel to the ground when you are ready to make a left turn. Remember to give the signal a reasonable distance and time before you will make your move to ensure that everyone notices it.
-
5
Bend your left arm at a 90 degree angle with your fingers pointing toward the sky when you are ready to make a right turn. Bend your arm at a 90 degree angle with your fingers pointing toward the ground when you are getting ready to stop.
