1
Avoid walking on the ground in your climbing shoes. Put your shoes on right before you begin to climb and swap them for walking shoes as soon as you finish climbing. Keeping your shoes clean is key to warding off unpleasant odors.
-
2
Apply a deodorizing or an antibacterial powder or spray intended for shoes as soon as you take them off. Killing the germs on your climbing shoes can help prevent unpleasant odors.
-
3
Tie the shoes to the outside of your climbing bag instead of storing them inside it. This allows for greater air circulation.
-
4
Dampen a cloth and wipe the climbing shoes down when you get home. Wipe the lining of the shoes and the insoles. Allow them to dry completely, away from direct sunlight.
-
5
Scrub the insides of the shoes if they begin to blacken and stink. Dip a small brush into soapy water (use an ordinary, mild detergent) and scrub the insides gently. Wipe the shoes down with a clean cloth and let them dry completely.
