Aggressive Rollerblading Tricks
-
Backside Grind
-
For this trick, you'll need a surface for grinding, such as a curb or rail. Perform the move by approaching the rail at a moderate speed. When you get close, pick a spot on the surface to designate as your landing area. Jump into the air and turn 90 degrees, landing on the rail between your two middle wheels. Keep your knees flexed and your legs shoulder-width apart. Face back toward the rail as you grind, then jump off and land at the edge. Try this trick at lower speeds to get a feel for the motion.
Wall Ride
-
Performing a wall ride is just like it sounds: riding on a wall. Before attempting it, try approaching a solid wall at a walking pace, then jumping and placing both feet on the wall. Once you're used to it, you can try it with Rollerblades. Approach the wall at a comfortable angle; avoid skating parallel to the wall. For the sake of safety, keep your speed low at first. Increase the velocity and duration of your wall rides as you become familiar with the motion. While you're on the wall, keep your torso, knees and ankles bent to maintain contact with the surface. Watch your skates throughout the duration of the wall ride, then hop down and return your feet beneath your body.
540
-
The 540 degree spin is nothing if not impressive. It involves rotating your body one and a half revolutions in the air. You'll need a ramp for this trick, and make sure you're familiar with the structure before attempting a 540. When you're ready, gather speed and hit the ramp. Jump into the air when you reach the top. Tuck your legs into your body and begin your spin, looking over your shoulder in the direction of your rotation. You'll have to land backward in a "fakie," so try to spot your landing when you come down.
Mizou Grind
-
You'll earn extra style points with the mizou grind, a variation on a forward grind. Execute this trick by skating up to the left side of a rail with a moderate amount of speed. Choose a spot to begin the grind, then jump into the air. Land on the rail on the side of your right foot and in between the middle skates of your left foot. Maintain your balance by turning your body so you're looking back at the rail as you grind. Finish the trick by hopping off at the edge of the rail and landing.
Alley Oop Makio
-
It will take quite a bit of practice to master this grind. You'll be grinding backward on one foot while grabbing the other skate. Build some speed and start an angled approach toward the right side of a ledge. Jump and spin a 180, then catch the ledge in a grind with the side of your right foot. At the same time, grab the outside of your left skate with your left hand. Keep your weight forward and watch your grinding foot to maintain balance. At the end of the ledge, look over your shoulder in the direction you want to spin. Jump off the ledge and turn 180 degrees again, landing forward.
