How to Shrink ABEC-1 Rollerblades

ABEC-1 is not the name of a type of inline skate; rather, ABEC-1 refers to the skate wheels. The Annual Bearing Engineers Committee of the Anti-friction Bearing Manufacturers Association maintains a measurement system for the speed of wheels. ABEC-1 is the slowest wheel and bearing type, however this has no impact on the size of the skates. If your skates are too big, they won't provide the right amount of support; too small and they can cut off circulation to your feet. Either way you leave yourself open to injury and very uncomfortable feet. If you should find yourself in possession of skates that are a little too big, don't despair.

Instructions

  1. Stuff It

    • 1

Put on a pair of thick socks then slip your feet into your inline skates.

    • 2

Lace or latch your skates to the tightest setting possible. When you stand up in your skates your feet should feel snug but not constricted.

    • 3

Test the fit of your skates by taking a few turns around the room. Use another pair of socks on top of the first is the fit is still too loose. If you need more ankle support then turn down the tops of the outside pair of socks until they cover your ankles before inserting your foot into your skates.

    Build It Up

    • 4

Cut a pair of shoe inserts to match the size of your foot. Place the inserts into your skates.

    • 5

Put on your skates, lacing them up as tight as possible without being uncomfortable. If they are still too big add another pair of insoles on top of the first pair. Building up the soles of your skates layer by layer should help provide a snugger fit.

    • 6

Stuff a balled up sock into the toes of your skates if needed. Try wearing thick socks to help take up any extra room inside the skates.
