How to Do a 360 Degree Flip on Skates

Aggressive in-line skating is a sport where participants ride on skates that each feature four wheels aligned with the direction of the wearer's foot. The in-line skates allow for a wide range of tricks, from aerial maneuvers to grinds along flat surfaces. A single backflip, in which a rider launches off a ramp and rotates 360-degrees while in the air, is a crowd-pleasing trick which takes practice to learn but pays off at the skate park.

Instructions

    • 1

Skate toward the ramp with as much speed as you can control. More speed provides more air on the jump so that you don't need to flip as fast to complete it.

    • 2

Flex your legs so that you're relaxed in a slightly-squatting position as you ride up the ramp.

    • 3

Jump up off the top of a straight-angled ramp, throwing your legs up as you leave the ground.

    • 4

Allow the natural momentum and angle of a vert or quarterpipe to throw your legs up if riding a curved ramp.

    • 5

Tuck your legs and arms in to allow your body to spin faster.

    • 6

Extend your arms out and straighten your legs to stop spinning as you near the full 360-degrees of rotation.

    • 7

Land facing forward if jumping off a straight ramp or backward if flipping on a curved ramp, flexing your legs as you land to absorb the impact, then ride out of the trick.
