How to Size Roller Blades

1
Look at the sizing noted on the skates or the box. Most roller blades sold in America will be sized similar to shoes, such as size 7 or 8. Still, every skate brand has variations in sizing, depending on where it is made.
-
2
Utilize a conversion chart for roller blades if the sizes are noted in a European measurement rather than American. Whenever the numbers are up in the 20's, 30's or 40's, the measurements are based on European standards. Most sporting goods stores selling roller blades should have a sizing chart available to help compare the sizes and find a starting point. Manufacturers also print a sizing chart on the boxes new roller blades come in.
-
3
Try on roller blades beginning with your normal shoe size. Sizes vary from brand to brand, and the shape of the roller blades are often inconsistent as well.
-
4
Put the heel of your foot deep into the heel of the skate and then lace it up or strap it, depending on how the skate is made. Make adjustments while sitting and then stand up on the blades. Wear both blades for the best size determination.
-
5
Move your toes around. A properly-sized skate should only barely touch the end of the toe box, or feather it, while standing. If your toes are curled, try on a larger size. If the toes have too much space, try on a smaller size.
-
6
Bend your knees and lean your body weight forward until you are bent over in a skating stance. Your toes should move backward from the toe box a little, giving more room to the toes.
-
7
Adjust the straps or laces until the skates are comfortable around the ankle and lower leg.
