How to Swim With the Sharks in Denver, Colorado

Dive into the depths of the waters at the Downtown Aquarium in Denver, where you will be able to get up close with the sharks. During your dive you will also encounter sea turtles, tropical fish and barracudas. Your dive will take you into the sunken shipwreck, where you will swim with zebra sharks, brown sharks and sand tiger sharks.

      Acquire a diver certification. Before being able to swim with the sharks at the Downtown Aquarium you must have received your diver certification. You do not need to have your own equipment; it will be provided for you by the diving guide.

      Make reservations. Diving with the sharks at the Downtown Aquarium is a program offered by A-1 Scuba and Travel Center (a1scuba.com) on Saturdays and Sundays starting at 1 p.m. Call A-1 Scuba and Travel Center to book your diving experience.

      Complete the waiver. Before checking in for your shark-diving experience, you must fill out and sign the waiver. Waivers can be downloaded from the Internet and turned in to the diving guide at check-in.

      Pay the fee. As of August 2011, the cost to dive with the sharks at the Downtown Aquarium was $175 per person. That included aquarium admission or free parking, complimentary use of diving equipment, a dive guide, a T-shirt and an appetizer at the aquarium's restaurant.

      Be prepared. Make sure you have everything you need before you leave for your diving experience, including diver certification, bathing suit, water-resistant footwear and a towel. You may bring your own diving mask, and a lock for your locker is recommended.
