Basic Diving Gear

If you plan on diving, you need to make sure you have all the basic gear. With so many equipment options available, it's important to know what type of gear is essential.
  1. Mask

    • A good mask gives you a clear view of the world below the water. Be sure to try many masks on to find the best fit. One size does not fit all.

    Fins

    • Without fins, underwater movement in all your gear is nearly impossible. Fins promote quick, fluid movement when diving, taking strain off your leg muscles.

    Scuba Gloves and Booties

    • Gloves and booties not only protect your hands and feet from cuts and scrapes, but they also provide grip, insulation and comfort.

    Snorkel

    • Whether you plan on remaining in shallow waters or not, every diver spends time towards the water's surface. A good snorkel saves you energy by allowing you to peer under the water without coming up for a breath.

    Weight System

    • A scuba weight system includes a weighted belt, weight harnesses and buoyancy compensators. Descending deeply under water relies on this system to keep you from floating with all your buoyant equipment.

    Wet Suit

    • Synthetic rubber suits, called wet suits, keep you warm during diving. They should fit as snugly as possible, therefore, it's necessary to try on several before purchasing.
