How to Suit Up to SCUBA Dive

Suiting up to SCUBA dive can be a challenging step in the diving process if you are unsure of what you are doing. However, with a few simple steps the process is simplified drastically. Follow the steps below and you will be suited up for a SCUBA dive in no time.

Instructions

    • 1

Put your exposure suit on if you are diving with one. This suit will keep your body insulated and warmer than if you were diving in just a bathing suit. This can be a wet suit or dry suit, depending on your preference and the water temperature.

    • 2

Attach your BC (buoyancy compensator), that you wear like a vest, onto the cylinder of the air tank. Tighten the strap of the BC around the tank and place the loop strap of the BC over the top of the tank. Lift the tank by the carrying strap of the BC. The tank should not slip. If it does, tighten it again.

    • 3

Connect your regulator to the tank. Your regulator is your breathing mechanism. Make sure the regulator will be on your right side and gauges on your left. Tighten the screw of the regulator tightly into the tank.

    • 4

Attach the low pressure inflator into the BC low pressure inflator hose.

    • 5

Open the tank so air is released. Check your regulator to make sure you can breathe through it easily.

    • 6

Inflate and deflate the BC at least two times to ensure the air is retaining and cleared successfully.

    • 7

Help your buddy put the BC on correctly, and they will in turn, help you through the same process.
