About Longboard Skateboards

Longboards are a type of skateboards that have longer and wider shapes. People usually use longboards for activities such as downhill racing, cruising, or even from getting from one place to another. Longboard skateboards are significantly heavier than other kinds of skateboards, so they are not commonly used to perform skateboarding tricks. There are several different shapes of Longboard skateboards, depending on what the intended use is.
  1. Benefits

    • There are several benefits to skateboarding using longboards. Since longboards are much longer than traditional skateboards (usually about 38 inches long compared to the typical 30 inches of length), they are often used for transportation purposes. They are much more convenient than bicycles (easier to store, no lock or chain required) and a lot faster than bicycling. They're also very small and portable. They are more stable than traditional skateboards and can go over larger bumps because of their bigger sized wheels.

    Function

    • Longboards are used for transportation, sidewalk surfing, bombing hills, cruising and downhill racing. Many people enjoy longboard skateboards because they combine a practical application (such as being able to travel from point A to point B using the board, with a more fun application, cruising and racing).

    Types

    • There are a lot of different popular types of longboard skateboards. Some popular and commonly used longboard skateboards include the Flexdeck Pro 40 Longboard Skateboard (high speed and bulletproof), the Arbor Fleetwood Longboard Cruiser (excellent for relaxed, smooth riding), the Flowboard (unique turning and flowing capabilities) and the Loaded Dervish Bamboo Longboard (dynamic with a low center of gravity).

    Theories/Speculation

    • Longboard skateboards generally cost between $100 and $200. There are a lot of places online to find large and diverse selections of longboard skateboards. Some places on the internet to check out include StreetBoards.com, Landyatchz Longboards, The Longboard Store, Sector 9 Skateboards, LoadedBoards.com and many others.

    Potential

    • If you like snowboarding and you're nowhere near the snow, skateboarding with longboards is a great and practical alternative. Many people who use longboards for carving think that using longboards to carve down steep hills feels very similar to snowboarding, although perhaps more frightening, as concrete is generally a lot harder and less forgiving than snow. It is also very similar to relaxed snowboarding when used on smaller, more gentle hills.
