How to Make a Really Good Longboard for Cruising

Longboarding is a sport almost identical to skateboarding. The major difference is that a longboard is designed with a longer deck. It is similar to a skateboard in that it is made up of three major components: a deck, trucks and wheels. By customizing these components, you can build a longboard to suit your skating style. Instructions

Choose a deck with a larger length and width. The board is the most important component when putting together a longboard. It should be at least 38 inches in length. The width should be at least 8 1/2 inches.

Purchase high-profile trucks. High-profile trucks offer the largest amount of space between the bottom of the deck and the hanger, which supports the wheels. They are designed for larger wheels, which are the best for cruising.

    • 3

Select wheels that are large and soft. Larger wheels help create a cruising, surfing feel. Soft wheels are the best for rolling over rocks, which is necessary when looking for a smooth ride. Your wheels should be at least 60 millimeters in diameter. The durometer, or hardness, should range from 78a to 87a.
