How to Maintain Longboard Care

Prolong the life of your longboard by maintaining it properly. Just as its name suggests, a longboard is a longer type of a skateboard. They are used for transportation, downhill racing or slalom. Longboards have a longer and wider base. Parts of the board get worn out over time, especially if you ride frequently or enjoy performing tricks such as jumps and carves.

Check the bearings of your longboard every month to make sure they spin freely. Worn out bearings are flat and stiff. Replace worn out bushings as necessary and change the kingpin nuts and axle at least once a year.

    • 2

Lubricate the bearings as soon as they start squeaking or if you can sense them sticking. Well-lubricated bearings last longer because they prevent wear and tear from too much friction.

    • 3

Rotate the longboard's wheels every six months or so. Skateboarders tend to wear out some wheels more than others depending on riding habits. Old, worn out wheels should be replaced.

Store the board properly by keeping it inside or in a shaded, dry area to avoid sun and water exposure. If the deck gets wet, wipe and dry it off immediately. Water can weaken the material of the deck which may cause cracks. Excessive sun exposure can cause the deck to become brittle and more prone to snap.
