How to Get Marks Out of Your Skateboard

Keeping skateboards scuff- or mark-free is next to impossible when riding. Jumps, rails, road grit, deck shoes and rocks all conspire to keep your prized board from staying pristine. After your ride, you can use a few methods of either removing or covering up those pesky deck and board marks. You may not be able to get the skateboard back to its original condition, but these tips will help keep the board looking sharp after sessions of hard riding.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Spray an all-purpose cleaner on a horsehair brush and scrub down the entire deck, not just the marks. Scrub and clean the entire deck to keep it uniform in color and condition. If you scrub only the marks, it lightens up only one section of the board.

    • 2

Wash the deck after you use the cleaner. Wash it with warm water and soap. Use a sponge or different horsehair brush (or wash out the same brush you used with the cleaner).

    • 3

Let the board dry. Once dry, inspect the board for nicks, small marks missed during the cleaning, or marks that won't come out with the cleaner. Use a permanent marker the same color as the board deck and cover up the marks with the marker, making them blend into the board.

Replace the deck with new grip tape. Remove the old deck that is marked beyond repair using a heat gun and a small prying tool. Let the deck cool down. Peel off the paper from the adhesive back on the grip tape, then stick it onto the skateboard.
