How to Do a Pop Shove-It 180 When Skimboarding

The Pop Shove-It 180 is a skimboarding move borrowed from skateboarding. It's a straightforward trick to learn, but you'll need plenty of practice before you can confidently add it to your runs. Once you get the Shove-It 180 down, though, it's a fantastic way to spice up your skimboarding sessions. Although it's not good for in-wave action, it's perfect for skimming the flats.

Instructions

    • 1

Find a smooth patch of flat sand to practice the trick. If you're a really advanced rider you can try the Shove-It on waves, but it's easiest to learn on the flats.

    • 2

Hop on your skimboard and bend your knees just a bit.

    • 3

Pop off of the board and into the air. You don't need much height to land the Shove-It, so a small hop will do.

    • 4

Kick one end of the board forward with the heel of your foot. At the same time, kick the opposite end of the board backward with the toes of your other foot.

    • 5

Wait for the board to spin 180 degrees beneath you while you're in the air.

    • 6

Land on the skimboard, which should now be facing backwards.

    • 7

Flex your knees again to absorb the impact of the landing and keep your board under control.
