How to Install a Snorkel

Explore the wonders of the ocean by snorkeling. Sights to see include colorful corals and different marine animals. Snorkeling gear allows the swimmer to breathe underwater longer with a clear view through the mask. The swimmer breathes through the snorkel tube that is attached to the mouth. Fit is important when choosing a snorkel mask; a good-fitting mask should be able to stay attached to your face just by breathing in and without the straps holding it to your head.

Instructions

    • 1

Pull your hair back and clear all strands away from your face. Tie it into a ponytail, if your hair is long enough.

    • 2

Fit the snorkel mask on your face and place the strap around your head. Fit the strap at the top part of the back of your head; this is the part with the widest diameter. Adjust the strap to fit snugly without over-tightening. Masks that are fitted too tightly can cause leaks, because the silicone grip around the face is pulled back too tight, causing it to bend out of shape.

Thread the snorkel tube onto the side of the mask. Adjust the tube, so that the mouthpiece is centered comfortably on your mouth.
