1
Select a material that is brightly colored for easy detection. Red, yellow, or orange are the most visible colors. If your item is not brightly colored, consider spray painting it.
-
2
Use a mooring buoy, a large plastic container, a partially inflated inner tube that has been folded in half like a banana and tied with a rope or a Polystyrene cooler. Any object that floats and can sustain your weight will be suitable. The object must be visible form a distance of 15 meters or 16.5 yards.
-
3
Tie a rope to the float. The rope should be at least 20 meters or 22 yards long. You should always stay within 15 meters or 16.5 yards from the float.
-
4
Anchor the float with a weight of at least 1 kg or 2.2 pounds. This will allow you to leave the float in place as you spearfish and will prevent the float from drifting off.
