How to Install Universal Nylon Snowshoe Bindings

Snowshoes without bindings look like over-sized tennis rackets without a handle. Once a set of bindings add on to the snowshoes, they become transports for snow covered trails and open ground. Universal bindings are made to go with almost all types of traditional woven, racket style snowshoes. These straps come in leather or synthetic material like nylon. Regardless of the material they are made from, they go on the same way.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the shoes down on a flat surface and step onto the snowshoe rackets in your winter boots. Find the "sweet spot" on the snow shoe. The sweet spot is the position where you gain the maximum float off the snowshoe during the stride. This is where thew foot is in the center of the snowshoe and the toe box of the boot is approximately 1/3 the length of the snowshoe from the front of the frame.

    • 2

Step up until your toe is approximately 1/3 the length of the snowshoe from the front end and centered in the show racket. Trace an outline of your boot in this position on the snowshoe using a wax crayon or marker that is water soluble.

    • 3

Thread the toe straps through the widest point of the foot, near the toe of the outline on each snowshoe. Wrap the end straps around the wood or metal frame near the wide spot of the traced foot.

    • 4

Snap the straps together as each wraps around the frame. The snaps must face the top of the snowshoe to prevent from getting snagged on ice chunks or obstacles, releasing them during the snowshoe hike.

    • 5

Extend the heel straps all the way toward the rear of the snowshoes.

    • 6

Step onto the snowshoes with your snowshoes on. Slip the toes into the front straps and pull down on the slider to tighten onto the boot toes.

    • 7

Wrap the heel straps around the back of the boot and thread the strap through the buckle like a belt. Pull the strap until it is snug and tight against the back of the boot and push the buckle pin through the nearest hole in the strap to secure into position.
