How to Do a Front Roll in Wakeboarding

Once you've gathered enough confidence to turn yourself upside-down during a wakeboarding trick, your next practice session should feature the front roll. This move is essentially a wake-to-wake front flip, and it's a suitable introduction to inverted rotation. If you're consistent in your ability to execute toeside 180s and wake jumps, the front roll can add that visually appealing "wow" factor to your wakeboarding runs and open the door to more advanced flips and inverts.

Instructions

    • 1

Begin your approach toward the wake from 20 feet away. Keep the handle in tight and close to your body. Stand up tall when you reach the wake, and then let off the edge just before you start the front roll.

    • 2

Initiate the roll by throwing your head and shoulders down toward the middle of your board. Bend your knees and tuck your body. Avoid under-rotation by maintaining your tuck until the roll is nearly complete.

    • 3

Release the handle from your rear hand as you complete the rotation. Spot your landing and let your knees absorb the impact.
