How to Stretch Out Wakeboard Binding

Because wakeboarding is a high-energy, explosive sport, wakeboard bindings are purposely constructed of materials that do not readily stretch. The right size binding is an important component of a good wakeboard. If the bindings are too loose, you lose control in the water. If the bindings are too tight, they may cause discomfort. If the bindings on your board are several sizes too small, you must purchase new bindings that fit the length of your foot. However, if the bindings are only slightly too snug, they may simply need to be stretched during a break-in period.

Coat the inside of your bindings with a water-based lubricant. Specialized wakeboarding products are available at most water sports stores. Other lubricants like soap or vegetable oil will work as well, but they may cause the bindings to remain slippery while you are in the water, which will make it more difficult to control the board.

Slide your feet all the way into the bindings. Adjust them according to the manufacturer's instructions until they fit snugly. Do not overtighten them, as this may cause damage in rough water.

Use your wakeboard as often as possible. As your feet move inside the bindings, the material will slowly stretch. This process is gradual so be patient. Remember to readjust the bindings each time you use the board, in order to compensate for the stretching.
