How to Hook a Rope to a Ski Pylon

Always make sure you properly secure your tow rope to the ski pylon, before you begin a day of waterskiing. A safe and secure connection to the pylon ensures the skier does not unexpectedly detach from the boat, which could cause serious injury. Learn how to correctly attach your tow rope to the pylon, so you can enjoy the day -- knowing that the skier is safely connected to the boat.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the loop at the end of the tow rope around the pylon, below the eyelet or ring, on top of the pylon. The skier's end of the rope should point aft, with the tip of the loop facing the front of the boat.

    • 2

Grasp the tip of the rope loop from the forward side of the ski pylon.

    • 3

Thread the end of the rope loop back through the ring on top of the ski pylon, and hook it around the post within the ring. With the skier's end of the rope pulled tight, the rope loop looks from the side like the letter "J," where the shaft of the "J" runs aft and parallel to the deck and the hook of the "J" threads the eyelet and loops, around the post or trigger.
