How to Break In Wakeboard Bindings

The proper fit and adjustment of wakeboard bindings is just as important as choosing the wakeboard itself. When choosing wakeboard bindings, ensure that the footbed matches the length of your foot. Even after you adjust the hardware, overlays and toe pieces, the new bindings might still feel uncomfortable. This is because they need to be broken-in over a certain period of time, and the amount of time depends on the binding's brand and materials. During the break-in period, they may feel excessively snug, which makes it difficult to get the boots into the bindings.

Apply a non-toxic water-based lubricant such as Newt Juice. This alleviates some of the difficulty when getting into new bindings. Apply as much as needed to your wakeboard boots, and then slide into the bindings. The lubricant dissipates quickly when used in water so that the fit of your bindings stay without slipping.

Adjust the wakeboard bindings to your foot before each use as the binding will continue to stretch as you break them in. Make sure they fit snugly, but do not over tighten. Different types of bindings include cranks, lace-pulls and hinges. Adjust according to your binding type and manufacturer's instructions.

Continue wakeboarding and use of bindings to allow them to break in naturally and gradually. As the bindings stretch during the break-in period, continue making adjustments for proper fit. The break-in period will be over once the bindings start to feel loose, less stiff and more flexible.
