How to Detemine the Right Wakeboard

Wakeboarding is an adventurous water sport; it involves riding a board over the water surface while attached and being towed behind a motorboat. The sport combines techniques from water skiing, surfing and snowboarding. Choosing a wakeboard is no easy task. You should consider many factors before choosing a board. Beginners should opt for used or rental boards to become more acquainted with the sport.

Choose a wakeboard shape based on your riding style and experience. If you have a surfing, water-skiing or snow-skiing background, consider a single-tip wakeboard. This style has a pointed front and square back, a style you may be more familiar and comfortable with. If you are a snowboarder or skateboarder, opt for a twin-tip board. Twin-tips are rounded in both ends, much like a skateboard and snowboard.

Match the wakeboard with your skill or ability level. Beginners should pick a square-railed board; this board type offers plenty of control and stability, especially for riding in long, sweeping motions outside the wake. Look for board styles with continuous or mellow three-stage rocker shape designed for recreational riders.

Opt for boards with features designed for more experienced riders if you're an intermediate wakeboarder. Features like subtle three-stage rocker and long-angled base-molded fins are ideal for intermediate users.

Choose boards with round rails if you're an advanced rider. Round rails allow you to go faster, land better and perform more tricks because there is less chance of catching an edge.

Look at the size charts of the wakeboard. The chart indicates the proper board for the size and weight of the rider. Within a range of board length, riders should opt for the longer board because the shorter one will not perform well if you're body weight is too large or heavy for it. Generally, the shorter the board, the less stability it offers.
